Holland Park Reclaimed Oak Parquet
This project, set within a townhouse in Holland Park, Central London, involved the supply and installation of a reclaimed English oak parquet block floor.
The blocks were laid in a traditional herringbone format, framed with a brickwork border to define the layout. The material itself was a particularly strong batch, carrying a naturally aged and patinated surface that required no sanding. It was installed without filler to clearly express each individual block, and the surface was prepared by hand using pads to retain all of its existing character. A dark brown oil was then applied to unify the tone while maintaining depth and variation.
The floor introduces a measured, architectural structure to the interior, sitting comfortably alongside the proportions and detailing of the early Victorian house. Its texture and definition bring a level of authenticity that can be difficult to achieve with new materials, reinforcing the character of the building without appearing imposed or overly refined.
